I love to read. My love of reading probably began when I was 4 years old. My sister Jill ordered a personalized children’s book for my birthday. The story was all about me, my best friend Mallory and my puppy Boomer going on a wonderful adventure. Who doesn’t love reading about themselves?!
Inspired by April over at Good Books & Good Wine I’m compliling a list of the ten books I want to read this year. April introduced her books in a Vlog, but I am way too shallow to put myself on webcam looking the way I do right now so I’ll list mine the old fashioned way.
In no particular order…
Burnt Offerings My main reason for wanting to read this book is because there is a 70’s horror film based off of it. Always gotta read the book before seeing the movie!
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks This book is on the top lists of most book critics and it seems like it will be an incredibly fascinating read. This description alone has my interest piqued: From a single, abbreviated life grew a seemingly immortal line of cells that made some of the most crucial innovations in modern science possible.
Skippy Dies I’m going to judge a book by it’s title and say I already love it. Skippy Dies. But how and why?! So intriguing. Plus, it’s set in Dublin and books set in Ireland are usually awesome.
The Strain Co-written by Guillermo DEl Toro and Chuck Hogan, this book supposedly reinvents the vampire genre. That’s right folks, I’m not tired of vampires just yet. Del Toro is the filmmaker behind Pan’s Labyrinth so I have high hopes for the storytelling in this book.
The Life of Pi I’m sure most of you have read this. Somehow I’ve managed to avoid this book for a few years. I’m not sure why I’ve been avoiding it but now that’s it’s being made into a movie I kind of want to read it.
Anna Karenina My sister gave me a copy of this book a couple years ago when she was cleaning out her collection and I haven’t read it yet. It’s a classic, one of those you just have to read.
Lucy A girl is brought to Chicago from the Congo, turns out to be half-human and half-ape. Craziness ensues! This book reminds me of the movie Splice, which I really enjoyed too.
A Visit from the Goon Squad At first I thought this book was about the WoW Guild I used to belong to, aptly named “The Goon Squad”, but it’s not.
Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People Amy Sedaris. ‘Nuff Said. This is definitely a book you don’t buy on an eReader.
Rendezvous with Rama Recommended by my friend Pani who is currently working in Iraq. Looks…interesting.
What do you think of my list? Have you read any of these books or have any recommendations for me? I plan to read at least 100 books in 2011 and need your help.
Don’t forget to add me as a friend on Goodreads . I’m amberherself.
