My husband and I have been on the search for our perfect starter home in Ann Arbor since the beginning of November. We’ve seen what feels like hundreds of houses but in reality the number is probably anywhere from 20-30. The road to homeownership has been trying so far….
Our first offer fell through because I asked for the seller’s to remove an antique oven from the basement prior to closing. Another offer had come in on this shortsale at the same time, very close to our price and without extraneous conditions, so naturally we lost out.
Our second offer fell through because the seller, a local bank, wouldn’t budge in price even after we discovered the property needed $5000 in sewer lines replaced immediately. That home is still up for sale at the original list price.
Our third offer fell through because of time constraints. The house was a short sale when we put our offer in but is on it’s way into foreclosure. We want out of our apartment ASAP and this home seemed like it would take a while to close so we promptly withdrew our offer : (
After having three houses be within reach, only to fall through at the very end, I was feeling a little down. Would we EVER find the right place for us? Friends and family kept telling me that I’d just have to be patient and it turns out they were right.
We’ve (read: us and our agent Sara Maddock ) negotiated a great offer with the seller of this cute little cape cod and our inspection is on Saturday (*cross your fingers it goes well*). Barring any MAJOR hiccips we should be closing on this property mid-April!
I am so glad that we have a house that has the space we want (4 bedrooms, 2 bath), with a backyard we love – backs out onto a creek! – close to everything in town.
Tell me about your house (or apartment/condo) hunting experience in the comments : )
