Well folks, we did it! Last Friday my husband and I signed the papers on our very first house. We looked throughout the Ann Arbor area since early November with our awesome Realtor Sara Maddock, putting offers in on THREE homes before finding this one. Search my Property Virgin category for all the info on our house hunting adventures.
Before sharing our pictures I have to recommend Sara Maddock to anyone looking for a house in the Ann Arbor, Dexter, Saline, Ypsilanti area. Sara took us through every step of the home buying process and made sure we had ALL the required info so we could make an informed decision. Besides being a knowledgeable Realtor she was fun to be around. Spending our weekends looking at houses wouldn’t have been as much fun as it was without a cool Realtor at our side. Thanks, Sara :)
We met up with Sara at 8:30am to do our final walk through. Everything was A-OK as we had expected. I was on the phone with our lawyer throughout the majority of the walk through making sure we were 100% good to go for closing.
Closing was an absolute breeze. I had no idea the seller would be in there because in Canada the buyer and seller don’t meet. Thankfully the seller was in an agreeable mood and I even managed to get some dirt on the neighbours. Word on the street is we better keep our hedges trimmed or the local busy-body will be calling the city on us pronto!
It only took thirty minutes to sign all of the papers and off we went to our BRAND NEW* house! I didn’t take the day off work – because I’m an idiot – so we didn’t have a lot of time to run around the empty house before I had to head to work.
We’ve owned the house for exactly one week and it’s still sitting empty. We have another month left in our apartment lease and plan to get the hardwood floors refinished before moving our furniture in. Richard will be popping by every now and then to work on little projects in the interim. He’s already started and finished his very first project as a homeowner…..installing a programmable thermostat!
We have SO much to do before moving in and even MORE to do afterwards. I can’t wait to get started! Any tips that you have for us as first time homeowners, please leave them in the comment section below.
