Halloween is over and I’m not happy about it. In my world, autumn ends right along with Halloween. It’s time to prepare for winter in Michigan but for now I’m going to look back on the great month that October was and wish I could do it all over again.
I was so excited to visit a pumpkin patch! We visited one local orchard, Wiards in Ypsilanti Township, but they wanted to charge us $12 per person to get onto their patch. Granted the $12 inculdes a hay ride, corn maze and other festive activites but I was there for one thing and one thing only: A pumpkin. Luckily we found a local farm on the way to Wiards selling them for a reasonable price and no entrance fee.
I spent a loooong time carving my R2D2 pumpkin only to have it destroyed overnight by sneaky squirrels or a ravenous raccoon. (Points to Gryffindor for alliteration!) When the pumpkin was on our porch, the inside work was all ripped out. I was so happy when a little Batman recognized the outline and told me my pumpkin looks like R2D2. Thanks kid, you made my night!
Decorating our house for the trick or treaters was really important to me. My parents did a great job scaring the kids in our neighbourhood when I was growing up so I wanted to do the same in our new ‘hood. Props to my husband who set up our spooky house while I was at work. Here he is hiding the sensor that triggers the strobe lights and spooky music.
The kids got a big kick out of the “Trashing Zombie” we bought from Target – on clearance no less! They all assumed it was a stationary ghoul but NOPE! Get too close and he will unleash his wrath.
Well worth the money.
I hope everyone had a great October and a very Happy Halloween! Did you decorate your house in an attempt to frighten innocent children?! If so, tell me what you did!
