Am I the only one in shock that today is December 5th? This year flew by! The beginning of December means the most important birthday of all time fast approaches. No, not Jesus’ birthday (because we all know Dec 25th is merely an estimate for his anyways) but mine! My birthday is on December 10th and I’d like you all to help me celebrate.
“But Amber, I live in _______, how could I possibly help you celebrate your birthday?” is what you’re probably asking. Well friend, the answer is so easy I’m glad you asked – You can make a donation to Washtenaw Literacy. Last year I participated in a similar fundraising drive for Scott Weinberg who managed to raise over $1000 for PetFinder.com Amazing, right? Scott inspired me to start this pledge and while I don’t think I’ll manage to raise over $1000 like he did it’s worth a shot!
Washtenaw Literacy is a great organization here in Washtenaw County that pairs adult learners with trained literacy tutors who can offer personalized tutoring in Basic Litearcy as well as ESL (English as a second language). I volunteered with Washtenaw Literacy as a basic literacy tutor, and have volunteered in their office and at their annual fundraiser, and I can’t stress how vital this organization is to my community. 1 in 8 adults in Washtenaw Country are *just* literate. Washtenaw Literacy offers those looking for help a means to better their lives and the lives of their families.
